Value Added Tax, the consumption tax used in most countries (other than the US).
VAT (Value Added Tax) is the consumption tax charged in nearly every country except the US, where state sales tax fills the role. Called IVA in Spanish and European Portuguese, GST in Australia and Canada. Mileage reimbursement is usually outside the VAT scope, but fuel and maintenance carry recoverable VAT under each jurisdiction's rules.
