On-Board Diagnostics 2: standardized diagnostic port mandatory on every vehicle since 1996.
OBD-II is the vehicle-diagnostic standard required on every US car since 1996, in Brazil since 2010, in Mexico since 2015. The 16-pin port under the dash exposes error codes, engine data (RPM, temperature), speed, and odometer. Plug-in dongles relay OBD-II to Bluetooth apps that generate automatic mileage receipts.
