Location accuracy

Margin of error of a GPS fix in meters, varies by device and conditions.

Location accuracy is the margin of error of the GPS fix in meters. A modern smartphone fixes 5–10 m under open sky, 30–80 m in urban canyons (multipath), up to 200 m indoors. Apps display an uncertainty circle around the point. For mileage receipts, accuracy worse than 50 m on five or more consecutive points signals a technical issue.
