A digital signature is the cryptographic mechanism (public/private key pair) that authenticates the issuer and proves document integrity. Mileage receipts digitally signed by the employer's system enjoy a presumption of authenticity in court. Regulated in Brazil by ICP-Brasil, in Mexico by SAT's FIEL/e.firma, in the US by the 2000 ESIGN Act.
