A contemporaneous record is the log made at the time of the trip or shortly after, treated by auditors as more reliable than later reconstruction. A GPS app capturing distance in real time, a receipt generated when the trip ends, a same-day spreadsheet entry — all contemporaneous. Months-later reconstruction from memory is fragile under audit.
